Priest in Charge
The Reverend Sara-Scott Wingo joined us in November, 2012 as our Priest-in-Charge. She comes to Emmanuel from Birmingham, Alabama where she has served as a priest for over twenty years and where she and her husband, Patrick Wingo, have been raising their three daughters. Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, she earned a B.A. from The University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee and an MDiv from The Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas. In her spare time she likes to play with her children and her three dogs, read, garden, hike, and knit.

Associate Clergy

The Rev. Barbara Duncan, D. Min., M.M. - The Rev. Barbara Duncan is a retired Priest and member of Emmanuel Church. She is one of the assisting Priests at Emmanuel and supplies in other parishes in the Diocese of Virginia. Her ministry has been in the Dioceses of Delaware in Christian Education, Canon Missioner and Interim Pastor; in Pennsylvania as Criminal Justice Coordinator; and in Washington, retiring from the Washington National Cathedral as Canon Pastor and Missioner. She is the mother of four adult children and enjoys gardening and traveling.


The Rev. Alwin Reiners, Jr. - The Rev. Alwin Reiners , Jr. graduated from Virginia Theological Seminary in 1954, and was ordained as a Deacon by Bishop Goodwin in that same year in his home parish, St. George’s in Arlington, VA. He was ordained as Priest by Bishop William Gordon in Alaska, and from 1954 to 1957 served as Priest-in-Charge at St. George’s in the Arctic, Kotzebue Alaska. From 1957 until 1961, he served as Assistant Priest at St. James in Richmond, VA, and was founding Vicar of St. Bartholomew’s in Richmond from 1967-1968. Rev. Reiners served as Rector of Holy Comforter in Charlotte North Carolina from 1968 to 1979 and as Director of the Educational Center in St. Louis, MO from 1979-1982. In 1982, Rev. Reiners became Rector of St. Paul’s Church in Hanover Court House, VA. He served on the Standing Committee in North Carolina and as Dean of Region 11 in the Diocese of Virginia from 1984 – 1987. Rev. Reiners retired in 1994. He is married to Joanne, and they have three children and four grandchildren.

The Rev. Canon Charles L. Poindexter - The Rev. Canon Charles L. Poindexter was born in Richmond, VA but spent most of his ministry in Philadelphia, PA at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Germantown. During his 33 years at St. Luke’s he was active in the Wissahickon Deanery, represented his diocese at General Convention and served on various boards throughout the Philadelphia area. In retirement, Fr. Poindexter has been priest in charge of a number of parishes in Richmond and enjoys being an associate at Emmanuel. He enjoys spending time with his family, working in his garden and bird watching.
